Profits and turnover have jumped at a Newton Aycliffe-based manufacturer of sheet plastics, despite demand in the market weakening "considerably". The company said it was "extremely pleased" with the results.

Primex Plastics, a subsidiary of the US-based Primex Plastics Corporation, produces materials used by manufacturers to make a broad range of end user products, such as trays, boxes and bins, children's outdoor toys and parts for the automotive industry.

Newly published results have shown that for the year ended 31 December 2023, turnover increased from £16.7m to £17.4m.

Pre-tax profits, meanwhile, jumped from £1.4m to £2.2m.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Primex are extremely pleased with the previous year's results, as it reflects the hard work put in by the whole team. We intend to continue our growth over the next few years with some exciting plans.
