Plans look to breathe new life into grade II-listed hall - scheme includes function room and chapel for weddings

The scheme includes a chapel to host weddings and aims to make it a "major regional destination with a unique luxury offer".

Whitworth Hall sits on the Whitworth Estate and deer park near Spennymoor and operated as a hotel business from 1998 until 2021 when it closed its doors.

The Apartment Group is behind the scheme and has a long term plan to undertake a series of "sensitive developments" which will be "transformational".

Newly lodged plans, which constitute the first phase of the investment, focus on the existing hall and hotel building and include creating a new extension which will act as a function room for weddings and events with up to 112 guests.
