Budding entrepreneurs are taking over Durham City Centre through the first Future Business Magnates (FBM) Market Makers on 5th April. This special event will see Year 6 students from across County Durham showcase and sell their own products, putting their new skills into practice.
FBM is a programme delivered by Business Durham, the support service for Durham County Council, and Market Makers is delivered in collaboration with TICE and funded by the UK Government UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The FBM Market Makers is an innovative programme designed to introduce enterprise education to primary school students. Through hands-on activities, teamwork, and real-world business experiences, these young entrepreneurs have developed creativity, financial literacy, and problem-solving skills.
The market event offers a unique opportunity for the students to experience running a business firsthand, engaging with customers, managing transactions, and promoting their products in a real marketplace setting.
A pupil from Westlea Primary School commented on their experience so far: "I’m really enjoying [taking part] and I do think in maybe 20 or 30 years’ time, I could become an entrepreneur."
Sarah Slaven, Managing Director of Business Durham, said: "Future Business Magnates Market Makers is a great initiative which aims to inspire and encourage young entrepreneurs. We want to empower and equip the young people in County Durham with the necessary skills and knowledge to become global leaders. One of the great advantages of working with our young people is their unwavering belief in their abilities and their natural inclination to think big and be ambitious."
This event is a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the power of enterprise education. It is also a fantastic opportunity for the local community to support young talent, witness their entrepreneurial spirit in action, and purchase unique, student-created products.
The FBM Market Makers initiative is paving the way for the future of enterprise education in County Durham, ensuring that young minds are equipped with the skills and confidence to thrive.
Join us in Durham City Centre on 5th April to support these young entrepreneurs and experience the impact of enterprise education firsthand!
