Durham-based NECIT Services Ltd. has announced the installation of defibrillators in every van across its service fleet, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community safety and emergency response across the North East.
With out-of-hospital cardiac arrests claiming the lives of nine out of ten people due to limited access to defibrillators, NECIT’s initiative is designed to help improve these odds. Survival rates decrease by approximately 10% for every minute defibrillation is delayed. By expanding the availability of Community Public Access Defibrillators (cPADs), NECIT aims to play an active role in addressing this urgent public health issue.
The company has pledged to install one defibrillator per month in each of its service vehicles. NECIT engineers, who travel across the region delivering expert welding inspection and certification services, will now carry a defibrillator at all times. Each engineer will receive training to ensure correct usage, and the equipment will be regularly maintained to remain ready for use in emergency situations.
In addition to the fleet initiative, NECIT will also install cPADs at every college that is registered as an approved NECIT examination centre. This will provide even greater access to lifesaving equipment for students, staff, and the wider community.
All defibrillators will be registered on The Circuit, a British Heart Foundation database that helps map available machines across the UK. This ensures they can be quickly located by healthcare professionals, paramedics, and members of the public when needed.
Together, these efforts will form a region-wide network of defibrillators, extending access to this vital emergency technology wherever NECIT operates.
