Newly apprenticed butcher Rachael Lister could prove a cut above the rest as she sets out in her chosen career.

Newly apprenticed butcher Rachael Lister could prove a cut above the rest as she sets out in her chosen career.

It follows an award from Durham Freemen’s Charitable Trustees to help meet the cost of the tools she will need to cut it, in the world of butchery.

The benefactors have links to the meat trade in Durham stretching back 500 years and they hope the 22-year-old, from Stanley, maintains those traditions.

She hopes the financial boost will help her preserve some of the centuries-old skills which are threatened by progress.
