Innovation In County Durham

Matching what's needed with what's possible.

Innovation - matching what's needed with what's possible

Innovative companies tend to survive longer and grow quicker. Business Durham has a proven track record for helping innovative companies grow and thrive.

Business Durham has a practical approach to encouraging companies to innovate, based around real market opportunities and real challenges that require innovative solutions:

1. Day to day business engagement, helping individual businesses to spot opportunities to develop new products and services, and access new markets and export opportunities.

2. Programme management, ensuring that opportunities from large-scale projects such as H2020, CERN and E-ELT are promoted to businesses so they can position themselves to engage appropriately.

3. Building long-term resilience, such as scoping out the opportunities and threats of Industry 4.0 and designing interventions where appropriate.

4. An open innovation programme (Smart County) which places societal challenges at the heart of local government economic development activity, reframing so-called problems as real market opportunities to catalyse the development of new ideas, and the creation of new products, services, and business models, catalysing more start-ups and scale-ups and building resilience. In the case of healthcare, this is tackling social isolation; in the case of space and satellites this is how we can feel safer in the world: security of foodchain, water, data, identity, environment, buildings and infrastructure, people, and goods.

Our innovation programme will support the scale up of your concept from idea to volume manufacture. We offer a variety of services, all of which are geared around the real needs of real companies. They include advice on entrepreneur funding, help in finding the right premises, expert knowledge, access to specialist equipment, innovation networks and access to a talented supply chain in the North East.

We can help with entrepreneur funding, market opportunities, innovation networks and help you access lab space, offices and clean room facilities at the North East Technology Park (NETPark).
