Seven North East companies have been named in the eleventh annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table, which ranks Britain's mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.
The seven companies headquartered in the region include three new entrants and have grown their international sales by an average of 80 per cent a year over the last two years to a total of £350m. Together they employ more than 2,000 people.
The region’s top-ranked company is Northern Gas & Power (4), which appears on the league table for the first time.
Founded by Fokhrul Islam in 2013, the energy consultancy's International sales reached £11.4m in 2018 on total sales of £29.6m, growing by an average of 248 per cent per year over two years.
Drinks manufacturer Fentimans (145) appears on the league table for a second consecutive year, with its international sales growing at a rate of 39 per cent. The company now sells to distributors in more than 80 countries.
Darlington-based scrap metal processor Ward Bros features on the league table for the first time, having grown its international sales at an average of 106 per cent. Exporting 50,000 tonnes to steel producers in Turkey and mills in Europe helped international sales reach £18.2m in 2018, on total sales of £41.7m.
Frank Recruitment Group (105), Oil Consultants (119), Crafter's Companion (122) and END Clothing (177) complete the North East contingent.
