Verd Office Solutions Ltd

Verd Office Solutions Ltd moved into Crook Business Centre in December 2015, seeking new premises prompted by a rapid growth in sales.

The company specialises in supplying office stationery and ergonomic seating solutions to prevent bad backs; its seats have been sold to London theatres, the toll booths along the M6 and even a a top British fashion design house.

The company is run by Peter and Kim Holdstock, who started out selling stationery supplies in 1996. They later developed their specialist seating, PostureSmart, with advice from physiotherapists and ergonomic experts. Today the chairs division runs alongside the stationery company and accounts for around 70 per cent of Verd’s business.

As Kim Holdstock explains, “Our office seating is bespoke and comes in all shapes and sizes rather than one size fits all. We’ve made chairs for one gentleman who was 6ft 10ins tall and for people who are only 4ft 8ins. Another client has curvature of the spine and we’ve made a chair in which he can feel comfortable.

“The reason PostureSmart has been so successful is the individual attention to detail we provide and the personal care we put into each sale. The business has grown from word of mouth so our reputation is all important.”

Verd’s chairs have become highly sought after all over the country and this growth prompted the move to Crook Business Centre, County Durham as it provided the perfect solution for all their business needs.

Kim Holdstock continued: “Business Durham provided fantastic support to us in the move and in finding the right accommodation for us. The premises are fantastically placed as they’re in the town centre and we’re among some really lovely people.”

Simon Goon, managing director of Business Durham, said: “Verd is a fantastic example of how County Durham’s design and manufacturing skills, knowledge and expertise has become highly sought after across the UK.”
