Concision

Growing writing and editing company Concision is the first tenant to move into multi-award winning business incubator Salvus House in Durham City.

Family-run business Concision was formed by Daniel Roe, his wife Sarah Prins and his father Brian Roe in June 2015.

The company has grown rapidly, from three people working from a home office in Shincliffe, Durham, to a team of eight and a suite in Salvus House.

Concision works with clients across the UK, Europe and the United States, particularly science and technology companies, marketing agencies, entrepreneurs and training teams.

It creates content for its clients ranging from website copy, marketing materials and press releases to training manuals and legal documents. Its skilled writers specialise in turning technical or jargon filled language into plain English so it can be easily understood.

CEO Daniel Roe said: "Our business is about making things clear and simple. Concision is what we are all about."

Daniel said he planned to grow the company further and that the new office space was an important part of that plan. The move coincides with taking on new staff member, Jen Herbert, who has an MA in English Literature from Durham University and several years' experience in business publishing as a writer, researcher and editor.

"The people who work for us are all writers first and foremost, and expanding our team is an important part of delivering value to our clients,” said Daniel. “We're glad to be based at Salvus House.

“It gives our team more space to collaborate. In addition, we're looking to take on another member of staff in the summer, and Salvus House gives us the room we need to continue to grow.

“Since moving into Salvus House, we have seized significant opportunities as consultants helping businesses think about how they communicate themselves not just through writing but also through strategy.

“We have also been increasingly involved with the space and satellite applications technology sector as part of the centre of excellence advisory board, helping them communicate what they can do simply and clearly, to gain access to funding and talk to potential customers.”
