- Merck Millipore have located in County Durham due to the proximity to Newcastle & Teesside biotech clusters.
- The Centre for Process Innovation’s (CPI) National Industrial Biotechnology Facility assists companies to develop bioprocesses to production scale effectively.
- The presence of GlaxoSmithKline in Barnard Castle has led to the development of a number of companies such as Classic Industries Europe and Honeyman Group.
- NETPark in Sedgefield has helped a number of leading science and technology companies to develop, including Kromek, specialising in colour X-ray diagnostics, and Reinnervate which develops 3D cell cultures.
County Durham has also benefited from the growth of companies such as FScan Ltd, Redditch Medical and High Force Research to enhance the electronics and smart device capabilities available.
