Business Durham started working with The Wood Pile in the spring of 2014, we met to discuss what type of support could be put in place and how they could assist us with networking. The initial contact was made with Joanne Urquhart-Arnold to see if she could find reasonably priced warehouse and retail space and very quickly Joanne advised us of a potential sub-let with a current company that she was supporting, DBI Services. DBI had some empty warehouse space that they did not intend to use and Joanne felt it might be just what The Wood Pile was looking for. She met with DBI and discussed options and then introduced us. The space that The Wood Pile needed was approximately 3,000 sq ft but the cost for such space locally was far greater than the budget we had. After a couple of meetings and a viewing it was agreed that the premises was perfect and a lease was agreed. We received the keys on 17th June 2014.
Joanne has continued to support our organisation in a number of ways, including introducing us to a local training provider which provides two trainees every eight weeks to assist the business. Joanne also sought a contact to provide The Wood Pile with some furniture from a school closure, which assisted the organisation in generating revenue from the sale of the furniture after upcycling.
Joanne is always promoting our service and when possible connects us with appropriate organisations which will help the business to grow. The Business Durham team has a wealth of knowledge and I often contact Joanne when I am unsure or need advice. I feel sure this project would not have started without the support of Business Durham.
